I
have always been drawn to the Arthurian legends. I love them as
great stories, as myths, as archetypes and as symbols. Never did
I dream I may have a genealogical connection to two Arthurian
characters, Tegau Eurvron and her husband, Caradoc.
|
When
I began researching my roots, I started with the woman I am named
for, my great-great grandmother, Martha Jane Young (a.k.a. Youngs,
Yonges, Younges). Mattie, as she liked to be called, led me deep
into the mists of time, first to Salem, Massachusetts, then to England,
Wales, and Avalon itself.

My search
for Mattie's roots first led me to Martha Young, who emigrated
from England to Salem, Massachusetts in the early 1600's. Finding
ancestors in Salem was another strange coincidence. My brother
lives there and the first time I visited the area, before I had
done any genealogical digging, I felt a strong connection.
Martha Young's
family is well documented, thanks to the efforts of Selah Young,
who wrote a book about the family's genealogy in 1907. The Salem
Martha Young's father, and my great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-graet=great
grandfather, is Rev. Christopher Young from Southold, England.
I'm also descended
from Rev. Christopher Young's son, Rev. John., whose own son,
Col. John Young claimed the coat of arms of ancestor Tudor Trevor.
Tudor's ancestry includes Tegau Eurfron and Caradoc Vreichvras,
a Lady and a Knight of the Round Table.

me and the spirits of my ancestors to the far distant past. A
land of sacred mountains, kings and wizards, weird coincidences,
and strong women. A land of enchantment.
