ANGHARAD -
DESCENDED FROM WELSH KINGS
Angharad was married to Tudor Trevor. Angharad (a.k.a. Angharet or Gladwin) verch Hywel was born about 920 AD, in Dynevor Castle, in Carmarthshire, Wales. Her name (ahng-HAHR-ahd) means "greatly loved one" in Welsh/Old Celtic.

She, like her husband, has a lineage that can be traced back through generations of Welsh kings. Her lineage goes back through the kings of Gwynedd, which was the most powerful kingdom in Wales.

Her father was King Hywel Dha (The Good), King of Wales. One of King Dha's great accomplishments was making the druid's oral legal tradition into a written code. Hywel Dha, according to the Latter Day Saints Ancestral File, held the title of King of all Wales from 907-950.

Hywel Dha is descended from Rhodri ap Merfyn "the Great," or Rhodri Mawr, ruler of all northern and western Wales. I would venture to guess Angharad's name came down from Rhodri Mawr's wife, Angharad or Ankaret.

Tudor and Angharad both have the blood of ancient Welsh Kings running through their veins.

ANGHARAD & TUDOR'S DESCENDANTS

The painting above is from "King Arthur and his Knights" by W. J. Enright and J. Allen St. John.

Fast forward to the 1300s, about 11 generations later. One of their descendants, Iorwerth ( Ierwerth) ap Morgan, married a woman called Margret or Margaret. She was daughter and heiress of William Younge de Sawardek. In an unusual twist, when Iorwerth married, he took his wife's name as his surname, thus the family became Yonge. (I would love to know the story behind that.)

Thus, eventually we get to Rev. Young, which brings us to Martha, and, eventually, to me and maybe to you too. Families were big back then and many people can claim these same ancestors. I'd love to hear from my "cousins."
